Camfed (Campaign for Female Education) is an international NGO headquartered in the UK. Camfed’s vision is of a world in which every child is educated, protected, respected and valued, and grows up to turn the tide of poverty. Camfed uses education as a strategic tool for empowerment and to fight poverty, HIV/AIDS and deprivation.

Camfed’s programmes were established in Ghana in 1998. Our work in Ghana is focused in the Northern, Upper East, Upper West and Central Regions. Though Ghana is achieving one of the fastest rates of poverty reduction in Africa and made strong progress under the Millennium Development Goals, this picture masks high poverty levels in the four regions where Camfed operates. Girls and young women are the most vulnerable victims of poverty. Early drop-out from school, poor employment opportunities and social marginalization in decision-making processes reflect their low social status and lack of empowerment.
Camfed operates in 860 partner schools comprising 455 primary schools, 332 junior high and 73 senior high schools. The organization operates in 31 districts in its regions of operation.

Camfed’s work in Ghana is spearheaded by the following teams:

  • Education
  • Further Education
  • Enterprise and Leadership Development
  • Human Resource and Administration
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Finance
  • Strategic Partnerships and Communications.
